Good News: “Summer at The Dome” has been nominated for the Outstanding Thesis Project award at American University’s Visions Film Festival!!!! Awards are given out next Friday (4/29) night, I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted win or lose!

Bad News: “Summer at The Dome” was not accepted to the shorts program at the Maryland Film Festival. Although this news was uprising and unfortunate, I look forward to finding other festivals I can screen the film at. If anyone has any suggestions for festivals please feel free to contact me.

More Good News: Soon Coach Wells and I will be announcing when the Baltimore community will be able to see the film. I’d like to show the film to as wide an audience as possible, and nailing down a proper venue has been tough. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work out the details of the premiere! Stay tuned to domefilm.com for more updates!!!

Many Domefilm.com fans are probably wondering: What’s taking so long?

Well, two things.

1) After finishing the editing portion of post production I had to prepare the project for broadcast/viewing. One of those tasks was color correcting the 26 minute version (Summer at the Dome). What do I mean by color correcting? Certain frames/scenes have different levels of different colors. Some scenes are too bright, some too dark, some too red, and some too blue. When watching the original cut of the film it becomes distracting. These problems had to be fixed. However, I did not know how to color correct (well). So, I did some research and taught myself as much as I could. I decided to learn from the ground up, and although I am still no expert, the film looks much better overall. Below are some screen shots that illustrate what color correction is all about.

I am now going through the same process with my final sound-mix, matching all of the sounds levels. As with the color, sometimes the sound is too loud, and sometimes too quiet. Unfortunately life gets in the way of the project, so the process is taking longer than I had originally hoped. Thank you for all of your patience out there.

2) I am waiting to hear back from the Maryland Film Festival. One of my goals was to premiere the film in Baltimore for a wide audience. During the Maryland Film Festival schedule there is an evening dedicated to short productions (some of them local). I applied/submitted back in December and should hear back at the end of the month. If the film is not accepted into their lineup a private screening will be arranged locally. Stay tuned for an update on the showing.

To all the faithful followers of the Craig Cromwell League and The Dome Film, tonight will be the last night of action up at The Dome. Although the summer has come to a close, the real work on the film is just beginning. With over 30 hours of footage (and counting); all of the sequences, scenes, sights, and sounds will start to take shape in the editing room. I’d like to thank everyone who stood in front of a camera and gave their time this summer; I could not have done it without you.

Be sure to stop by Madison Square tonight if you get a chance, should be a good one.
